What is Hypnobirthing?
Hypnobirthing is a childbirth technique that focuses on preparing parents for a calm, gentle and positive birth. During the hypnobirthing classes, you will learn about several techniques such as breathing, visualisation, deep relaxation and self-hypnosis in order to eliminate fear and enable the process of labour to occur naturally and without restraint. By allowing your body to go into a deep state of relaxation, you are encouraging your body to release endorphins- the body’s natural relaxant and pain relief as well as oxytocin which will reduce the need for interventions during your childbirth experience.
Studies show that once an intervention has taken place during childbirth, it is likely for a ‘cascade of interventions’ to follow. Although some of these are incredibly necessary (i.e. emergency caesarean), there are pros and cons to every intervention which every mother should know about before making the decision to use them during her labour. These classes will ensure the mother and birth partner feel confident and informed, in order to make decisions that are best for them.
Understandably, childbirth does not always go the way we planned. This course will prepare mothers for what ever happens and be able to adapt the techniques to different environments and circumstances, but which can also be helpful during the postpartum period. At the end of the day, a healthy mum and bub and safe delivery is the most important thing.
When is the best time to complete the course?
Hypnobirthing Australia™ recommends beginning the course between 20-30 weeks of gestation. This is so you can continue to practise the techniques you learn during class and take time to get the most out of the hypnobirthing resources you have access to.
If you happen to be outside of these weeks, not to worry! Just send me an enquiry and we can discuss the best options for you.
Who and what do I bring to class with me?
When attending the positive birth classes it is highly recommended to bring your birth partner. This could be your husband, wife, partner, mum or doula ect. This is so your support person can learn the techniques alongside you that will help you during birth in order for you to birth your baby/ies calmly. More importantly, your support person will also act as an advocate for you and communicate with your caregivers on your behalf, so it is essential they know your birth preferences.
On the matter of what to bring, an open mind and some comfortable attire is all you will need!
